The short version.
I hold tremendous reverence for the order of the universe.
I thrive on learning, growth and expanding my horizons.
I explore the world and my own being as deeply and truthfully as possible. I ultimately hope to help others explore and deepen their understanding of themselves and the world around us, find their creative spark and live happier, healthier lives through offering retreats and courses. (First retreat coming October, 2017).
I am a
passionate community member,
The long version.
Raised on the Pacific Northwest Coast of Canada with a pencil in my hand and the rainforest as her playground, I am equal parts artist, scientist and explorer. Playing with dolls wasn’t my thing, so I started painting when she was 4 years old and became an entirely self-taught artist.
From a young age, I have travelled the world in pursuit of diverse passions, from studying coral reefs in Rarotonga at 14, to an art history tour of Italy at 16, to studying for a PhD in Molecular Cell Biology & Genetics at Cambridge University at 22.
I pursued a career in academic science for 13 years before becoming a full-time artist in July, 2016. I aim to re-integrate science into my work life again in the future, but through a different lens.
My scientific training influences my artistic style and vice versa; I'm tremendously inspired by the astonishing, fractal nature of life - from the innermost workings of every atom to the vast realms of the cosmos.
Time spent in nature, deep forest walks, dancing, yoga and singing meditations bring cascades of ideas through creative source.
In partnership with Jennifer Field of Divinely Nourished and Halfmoon Haven Retreat and Spa, we are creating an amazing series of creativity & personal development retreats that will be taking place on the beautiful Sunshine Coast here in British Columbia, in Costa Rica, Hawaii and other exotic locations around the world, starting in Fall 2017.
In collaboration with artists and scientists from around the world, I'm also helping to create a series of interactive audio-visual presentations that explore a wide array of topics on the incredible nature of life, bridging art, science and creativity. I will be presenting this work at various gatherings in the Pacific Northwest this summer, including as part of the Revival Project (based out of Washington, USA), in which I am a partner and team member (http://www.backtolife.org/).
On a personal level, my modus operandi is to spread joy each and every day, sharing smiles and positivity as I move through the world. I hopes that my art inspires creativity and stirs something little deeper in those who view it.
I connect deeply with the plant world - especially trees - and am passionate about the preservation of forest ecosystems and marine life.
I'm infinitely grateful to my family for their love and support along the way, especially my father, Carl, and mother, Jane. I is also supremely grateful for my dear, supportive friends and community. SO much love to you!
On last thing...
I loves to co-create with clients and am available for commissioned work on a variety of scales, from small drawings on paper to large-scale murals, company logos to tattoos. I also "live paint" at events, where I translates the essence, emotions and energy of my surroundings into original works of art, from weddings to festivals to fundraisers...an awesome way to add ambience and capture special moments! (See "Commissions" for more information.)
